Women's Volleyball Drops Four Setter to Penn State Altoona

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Penn State Altoona in non-conference action at the Capital Union Building on Thursday night, Oct. 6.

 

Carolina Hernandez had a big night offensively and Anna Ruff added a dozen kills. Olivia Koicuba and Tori Henderson led the way on defense with 20 digs apiece and reigning United East Offensive Player of the Week Alyssa Snyder racked up more than 40 assists. 

 

The Lions (9-6) fought hard in each game before eventually falling by set scores of 27-29, 25-20, 27-25, and 25-18. The third set in particular saw Penn State Harrisburg erase a sizable deficit midway through the game and draw even late before the visiting Lions (3-9) made a last push to hold on for the win.

 

NOTABLES

- With her 12 kills, Ruff became just the fourth player in program history to surpass the 500 mark for her career.

- Hernandez's 14 kills were a new career high.

- Koicuba and Henderson tallied 20 digs apiece to lead the way defensively.

- Tiniira Tubo was excellent at the net, finishing with five block assists.

- Snyder assisted on 44 points from her setter position.

The Lions open conference play when they travel to SUNY Morrisville to take on the hosts and Penn State Berks in tri-match action on Saturday afternoon.
