Women's Volleyball Suffers Five-Set Setback at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team was edged by Alvernia in five sets during non-conference action on Thursday night, Sept. 29, falling by set scores of 25-17, 12-25, 17-25, 29-27, and 10-15.

 

Anna Ruff was stout on the offensive side, matching her career high in kills (18), while Olivia Koicuba and Alyssa Snyder led the way on defense. Snyder also racked up more than 40 assists from her setter position. 

 

The Lions (9-5) jumped out to an early advantage thanks to an opening-set victory before the hometown Wolves (7-6) responded with back-to-back wins in the second and third sets, respectively. Penn State Harrisburg overcame a late deficit in the fourth game to force a deciding set before AU held on for a narrow victory in the fifth.

 

NOTABLES

- The setback ended Penn State Harrisburg's recent four-match win streak.

- Ruff's 18 kills matched her career high. She finished with 20 total points on the night.

- Koicuba and Snyder each tallied a team-high 18 digs.

- Snyder also racked up a season-high 42 assists.

- Tiniira Tubo added 10 kills, while Tori Henderson finished with nine.

- Henderson also dug out 10 balls.

- Julia Choe finished with a team-high three service aces.
