Women's Volleyball Falls to Misericordia In Season Opener

DALLAS, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Misericordia in the 2022 season opener on Thursday night, Sept. 1. The Lions fell by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 28-26. 

 

Anna Ruff and Tiniira Tubo led the way with six kills apiece, while Olivia Koicuba racked up 13 digs. Alyssa Snyder added 11 assists and Ruff finished with three total blocks.

 

The Lions (0-1) took an early 6-3 lead in the opening set and led 10-9 following a Tori Henderson kill but Misericordia (1-0) used a 7-1 run to take back the momentum before closing it out with six consecutive points. After training by as many as seven points in the second set, Penn State Harrisburg made a late push by scoring four in a row to pull within three but MU held on thanks to a set-ending 5-1 run. The visitors erased an early 11-5 deficit in the third and eventually pulled ahead 24-21 but the Cougars pulled even in the closing moments before escaping with a narrow third-set win to clinch the overall victory. 

 

NOTABLES

- Anna Ruff led the way with a team-high six kills and three total blocks (2 BS, 1 BA).

- Tiniira Tubo also finished with a team-best six kills.

- Olivia Koicuba racked up 13 digs, while Julia Shoe added seven of her own.

- Alyssa Snyder tallied 11 assists, six digs, and three service aces.

- Hannah DeGregory added five kills and eight assists in her collegiate debut.

- Thursday's meeting between the two teams was the 10th during Penn State Harrisburg's NCAA era.

 

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions will look to bounce back at Hood on Saturday afternoon. Penn State Harrisburg faces Notre Dame (Md.) at noon before taking on the hosts at 2 p.m.
