Women's Volleyball Sweeps Wilson, Wins Third In a Row

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team won its third match in a row thanks to a 3-0 sweep of Wilson on Thursday night, Sept. 16. The Lions handled the hometown Phoenix by set scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening set proved the closest on Thursday night, with the Lions (5-1) jumping out to a sizable advantage before the home team rallied to make things interesting down the stretch. A Cheyanna Buckingham kill made it 12-5 and the Blue & White grabbed their largest lead at 16-7 following a kill from Anna Ruff. The Phoenix (0-2) put together a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to one but Ruff, Buckingham, and Tori Henderson led the offense with four combined kills in crunch time to seal the win.

Penn State Harrisburg got out to another early lead following an Emmaline Stevens kill in set two but again the home team cut the deficit to a more manageable two points midway through. Leading 14-12 the Lions reeled off four points in a row during a Julia Choe service run and never looked back. Megan Hamm converted the set-clinching kill off an assist from Katie Richardson.

The third and deciding set was all Penn State Harrisburg, with the majority of the damage coming during an Olivia Koicuba service run midway through the game. Stevens eventually clinched the set and the match with a kill of another Richardson assist.
