Ladies Pick Up First NEAC Win at Crossover Event

AURORA, N.Y. – After dropping two tough matches just one day earlier, Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team bounced back nicely and grabbed a big win at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover event hosted by Wells College.  The blue and white bested the Express 3-1 by scores of 20-25, 25-15, 25-7 and 25-15 on Sunday, Sep. 23 to pick up the squad's first conference victory of 2012.

Freshman Olivia Umoren (Quincy, Mass. / North Quincy), junior Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) and senior Miranda Jumper (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) had big days offensively for the Penn State Harrisburg.  Umoren led the way with a game-high 11 kills while Igwe and Jumper pitched in with seven and six, respectively.
 
Sophomore Erin Goodyear (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) had a tremendous day on the defensive side of things, digging out a game-high 20 balls.  Jumper followed her with 11 digs of her own and added three block assists.  Igwe recorded two solo blocks and helped out on three assisted blocks.
Junior setter Beth Findley (New Providence, Pa. / Solanco) racked up a game-high 19 assists while freshman Katie Shek (Old Bridge, Pa. / Old Bridge) added six.
Findley and senior Michelle Pellechia (Allentown, Pa. / Catasauqua) were strong on serves as each lady recorded three aces.  Jumper and Goodyear notched two apiece.
As a team, the Lions recorded a .208 hitting percentage and racked up 37 total kills in comparison to Wells which hit -.091 percent and only managed 20 total kills in addition to the team's 30 hitting errors.
The road win improved the blue and white to 4-10 on the year and 1-2 in NEAC play.
 
Penn State Harrisburg returns to the friendly confines of the Capital Union Building for the ladies' next match this Tuesday, Sep. 25 against Bryn Athyn.
