Ladies Fall to Messiah In Home Opener

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg volleyball program has faced a tough non-conference schedule early in the 2010 season. The Messiah College Falcons, a Division III volleyball powerhouse, showed up ready to defend their four-game winning streak against the Lady Lions on Thursday night.

Messiah College started out strong and their attack proved to be too much for the Lady Lions defense as they finished the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19). Sophomore Amanda Duda (New Cumberland, PA/Westfield) led Penn State Harrisburg with 4 kills and 5 digs along with senior Finesse Hempfing (Hershey, PA/Hanover) who added 2 kills, 9 assists and 8 digs. The leading duo wasn't enough to overcome the impressive Messiah College showing. The Falcons put up notable numbers in most categories including 31 kills, 14 blocks, 56 digs and 29 assists.

The Lady Lions look to improve their record at the home tri-match against non-conference opponents Hood College and Immaculata University on Saturday at 11am and 3pm, respectively.
