Women's Basketball Fends Off Penn State Abington

ali lister prepares to shoot the ball against penn state abington

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team held off a scrappy Penn State Abington squad in a 76-69 conference victory at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Feb. 7.

Giahny Correa led the team in scoring with 28 points, while Bailey Oehmig recorded 15 points of her own. Ali Lister rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points. Five different Lions tied for a team-high in rebounds, as Lister, Ciani Redd-Howard, Jenna Montana, Abril Bowser, and Mikayla Wright all grabbed six boards each.

With Penn State Harrisburg (12-11, 9-1 United East) leading 66-63 with three and a half minutes remaining, Oehmig converted an old-fashioned 3-point play off an inbounds pass from Lister. Penn State Abington (9-14, 5-5 United East) tried to stay within striking distance with a shot from behind the arc by Amina Reid but the visiting Lions were forced to foul Correa and Jayla Galbreath, both of whom converted two free throws each with seconds left in the contest.

Penn State Abington led 22-19 going into the second quarter, however the hometown Lions only allowed eight total points throughout the second frame going into halftime. The third quarter was dominated by Oehmig, as she netted 10 of her total 15 points and shot over 50 percent from the field. With 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Bowser found Oehmig at the top of the key for a momentum-changing 3-ball.
