Women's Basketball Drops Opening Contest to Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team dropped their first contest of the 2023-24 season to non-conference opponent Stockton 62-46 on Wednesday night, Nov. 8. 

 

Jayla Galbreath was the lone player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with a team-high 20 points, including five three-pointers. Mikayla Wright and Ali Lister added seven points each, while Jenna Montana led the team with seven rebounds. 

 

In a low-scoring affair, the Lions ended the first quarter leading 10-6. The Ospreys, however, came out swinging in the second when they scored five straight points to gain the lead by one. Stockton continued the momentum throughout the second quarter, as they outscored Penn State Harrisburg 17-6. 

 

Both Penn State Harrisburg and Stockton had solid outings in the third quarter, as there was 37 total points scored between the two teams. Early in the fourth quarter, Galbreath netted a three-pointer before Ciani Redd-Howard earned the old-fashioned 3-point play to bring the game within two points 40-42. Stockton was able to capitalize on an 11-point run later in the fourth and kept the lead until the final buzzer. 

 

NOTABLES 

- The Lions had a tough shooting night, as they shot just 25 percent from the field and 20 percent from 3-point range. 

- Stockton managed a 42.9 shooting clip from beyond the arc. 

- The home team won the rebound battle 43-37. 

- Galbreath netted 20 points, with five threes and going five-of-six from the charity stripe. 

- Montana had a team-high seven rebounds on the night. 

- Bailey Oehmig dished out a team-best three assists and had three steals. 

- Wright and Lister added seven points each. 

- Stockton's Skylar Fowlkes led the Ospreys with 13 points. 

 

WHO'S NEXT? 

The Lions are back in action on the weekend at Franklin & Marshall's Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic. They face off first against Neumann on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m and then on Sunday, Nov. 12 Penn State Harrisburg will got up against the home team at 7:30 p.m.
