Women's Basketball Bests Berks For Seventh Straight Win

READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team used a strong second half to roll to a 73-40 victory at United East foe Penn State Berks on Tuesday night and extend its recent win streak to seven in a row. 

 

Jayla Galbreath knocked down six 3-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 20 points. Olivia Richardson netted a season-high 13 points, while Jenna Montana added 10 points off the bench.

 

After a tightly-contested first quarter that saw the Lions (11-6, 8-0 United East) holding a 10-8 lead, the visitors came to life in the second, outscoring Penn State Berks (1-13, 1-7 United East) 19-7, while the team's defense allowed just five field goal attempts and forced 17 turnovers for the home team. 

 

Richardson opened the second half by scoring seven straight points before Galbreath buried back-to-back 3-balls to stretch the advantage to 46-24 midway through the third quarter. From there, the visitors never looked back and after outscoring the hometown Lions by 14 in the frame, they won the fourth by five points to put the finishing touches on another valuable conference victory.

- Penn State Harrisburg shot 41 percent from the floor and held the opposing Lions to just 23.6 percent shooting. 

- The Lions' defense forced 34 turnovers, scoring 24 points off Penn State Berks miscues. 

- Penn State Harrisburg's bench outscored the home team's reserves 30-7.

- Richardson went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line en route to scoring 13 points. 

- Montana added 10 points and a game-high four steals off the bench.

- Penn State Harrisburg's seven-game win streak is the program's longest since the 2011-12 campaign.
