Strong Second Half Pushes Women's Hoops Past Wells

AURORA, N.Y. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team shook off a slow start and responded with a strong second-half effort in a 73-50 road victory over United East foe Wells on Friday night, Jan. 28.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After falling behind early and clinging to a slim halftime lead, Penn State Harrisburg (11-5, 6-2 United East) came to life in the second half, resulting in a blowout victory over Wells (1-15, 1-8 United East) on Friday night.

Macy Carroll knocked down four 3-pointers to tally a team-high 12 points, while Jayla Galbreath and Kendis Butler added 11 points apiece. Anna Mahan finished one point shy of a double-double with nine and a dozen rebounds, Toni Amato chipped in with nine points off the bench, and Jenna Montana and Giahny Correa finished with seven points each.

Holding a 28-26 lead at the break, the Lions got the jolt they needed when Galbreath and Butler buried back-to-back 3-balls early in the third quarter. Correa came away with a steal on one end and finished in transition on the other to stretch the advantage to 10 midway through the frame and a Montana triple pushed the lead to 14 at the 2:06 mark.

The momentum carried over into the fourth quarter when Galbreath scored four straight to open the stanza and Carroll connected on back-to-back trifectas to make it 63-39 with 6:10 left to play. Carroll buried another 3-ball with three minutes remaining and added one more for good measure to cap the Penn State Harrisburg scoring with 2:06 to go.

The visitors fell behind 11-3 in the early going and trailed by double digits midway through the second quarter before responding with a game-changing 15-3 run to close out the first half.
