Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Top Lancaster Bible

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team kept its recent hot streak rolling with a come-from-behind 82-72 victory over United East rival Lancaster Bible at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Jan. 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (9-4, 5-1 United East) found itself in a double-digit hole early but fought all the way back to earn a 10-point victory over Lancaster Bible (7-8, 4-2 United East) on Wednesday night.

Ciani Redd-Howard nearly recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds, Jayla Galbreath racked up 18 points, and Kendis Butler added a dozen of her own. Jenna Montana and Toni Amato each finished with eight and Sydney Hemler chipped in with six and six boards.

Trailing 30-12 early in the second quarter, the Lions mounted a charge that began with five straight points from Montana and a 3-ball from Butler midway through the frame. After an LBC timeout, Montana and Amato kept the run going by connecting from deep, while Paige Kubulak added a timely layup on the block. Galbreath got all the way to the rim late in the quarter before closing out the half with a deep 3-pointer that cut the deficit to four at halftime.

Galbreath kept the momentum rolling after the break, scoring the first five points of the third quarter to continue a massive 22-0 run for the Blue & White. Redd-Howard converted three consecutive layups, including an old-fashioned 3-point play, while Anna Mahan and Macy Carroll capped off the game-changing spurt with back-to-back layups.

The Lions stretched the lead to 63-45 when Mahan found a cutting Butler for a pretty layup to begin the final frame but a 9-0 run by the visitors cut the deficit to nine with 8:08 remaining. Butler responded and halted the LBC spurt with a 5-0 run of her own that included an elbow trey and a driving finish at the rim on consecutive possessions. Redd-Howard added the next six points for Penn State Harrisburg and Galbreath put the game on ice by knocking down four free throws in the closing moments.
