Second-Half Surge Lifts Women's Basketball Past Wilson

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team overcame a slow start and erased a first-half deficit en route a convincing 75-54 victory over Wilson at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Nov. 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It took some time for the Lions (3-1) to get going but once they did, they left no doubt in a lopsided win over Wilson (0-3) Tuesday night. Jenna Montana recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendis Butler (18), Jayla Galbreath (16), and Toni Amato (15) also reached the double-digit scoring mark for the Blue & White.

Trailing 31-23 at halftime, Penn State Harrisburg fell behind by as many as a dozen points early in the third quarter before Butler buried a 3-ball that sparked some much-needed life into the home team. Montana and Amato followed it up with triples of their own to cut the deficit to five midway through the third. Amato knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers later in the quarter before a Montana layup put the Lions back out in front for the first time since the first half. Galbreath added a trey for good measure to make it 45-41 heading into the fourth.

The Lions put together a 10-0 run to begin the final quarter before a pair of Montana free throws stretched the advantage to 20 65-45 with 4:30 left to play.

Penn State Harrisburg jumped out to an 11-4 lead to begin the game but the visitors responded with 12-1 run and held a 16-12 advantage after the first quarter. Back-to-back Butler 3-balls put the home team back in front at the 8:11 mark of the second quarter but the Phoenix closed out the half with a 13-3 spurt.
