How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg (3-4) fell to Lebanon Valley College (4-5) in a non-conference matchup on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Capital Union Building.

Both teams struggled to find their offensive grooves in the opening minutes, but Lebanon Valley took advantage of several early offensive rebounds and built a 14-0 advantage. Anna Mahan opened the scoring for the Lions, gathering in an offensive rebound and putting it back for an easy layup. Still the Lions found themselves trailing by 12 points heading into the second quarter.

Kendis Butler got the offense started in the second quarter when she drained a deep three-pointer. Sydney Gordon followed with a three-pointer of her own as Harrisburg pulled back within eight-points. The Lions could pull no closer as the Dutchmen ended the half on a five-point run to hold a 26-13 lead heading into the break.

The Lions came out of the locker room and used outstanding defensive play to climb back into the game. Harrisburg held the Dutchmen scoreless for the first 7:40 of the second half. Meanwhile layups from Butler and Laurel Amey kicked started the Lions offense. A Mahan three-pointer pulled the Lions within four and Amey followed it up with another three making the score 26-25. Butler drew defenders toward her and found a wide opened Madison Hemler for a layup to give Harrisburg their first lead of the game. Macey Caroll drained an open three in the corner to give the Lions a four-point lead. After a three-pointer from Lebanon Valley's Morgan Bamberger tied the game, Carroll connected again from deep to recapture the lead. Free throws by Hemler and Butler gave Harrisburg a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Dutchmen recaptured the lead early in the fourth quarter, but Butler connected on another three to retake a 41-39 lead. Lebanon Valley then used 11-0 run to retake control of the game. The Lions could not rally back falling 64-51.

- Kendis Butler led the Lions offense scoring 19 points

- Anna Mahan scored seven points while pulling in 13 rebounds

Who's Next?

Penn State Harrisburg will take a break over the Holiday Season, but the Lions will return to action December 30 when they travel to Centenary University at 6:00 p.m.
