How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg dropped its first road matchup of the season at Swarthmore by a final score of 83-57 on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16. Kendis Butler poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the way.

The Lions started out strong with Butler knocking down a 3-pointer and drawing a foul to complete a 4-point play. Later in the quarter, Paige Kubalak connect on her first collegiate 3-pointer, giving Harrisburg a 7-6 advantage. The Garnet would respond by closing the quarter on an 8-2 run, holding a five-point advantage heading to the second quarter.  The teams traded baskets in the second quarter, with Macy Carroll scoring eight of her career-high 15 points, including connecting on a pair of 3-pointers. The Garnet answered back, building an eight-point lead at 35-27 going into the half.

Swarthmore opened the second half with a 21-3 run, racing out to a 56-32 lead. The Garnet held a lead as large as 28 points. Butler looked to cut into the deficit, connecting on four 3-balls in the second half and scoring 17 of her game-high 23 points in the final 20 minutes. The Lions, however, could not overcome the Garnet advantage, falling 83-57.  

Inside the Numbers

- Kendis Butler led the Lions in scoring with 23 points, with 17 of her points coming in the second half

- Macy Carroll scored 15 points off the bench

- Harrisburg shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line

- The Garnet outrebounded the Lions 48-24

The Lions return home to host the 2019 Pride. Spirit. Honor. Tournament presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites beginning on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Lions face Lehman at 4 p.m., with Wesley taking on Delaware Valley at 6 p.m.
