How It Happened

The Penn State Harrisburg Women's Basketball team fell to Christopher Newport in its Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) regular season finale on. Before the game, The Lions honored the five members of its 2019 Senior Class, Shanique Mattis, Rachel Miller, Aireo Payne, Briana Davis, and Abrianna Hamby, before the game. The Blue & White were led in scoring by Mattis with 15 points.

Both offenses found their groves early on, with Mattis and Davis each connecting on early three-pointers helping the Lions take a 8-2 lead.  The Captains would answer, going on a 15-0 run to recapture the momentum. Harrisburg answered back powered by a pair of layups from Mattis. Kendis Butler knocked down her first three-pointer of the game giving the Lions an 18-17 advantage. Rachel Miller would connect on a three to close out the quarter.

The teams would trade the lead back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Laurel Amey drove the lane for a layup giving the Lions a 27-24 lead three minutes into the quarter. A 10-0 Captains run midway through the quarter allowed the Captains to take control of the game and hold a 43-32 lead heading to the half.

The Captains would control play in the second half, stifling any and all of Harrisburg's attempts to rally. Five different Lions would connect from behind arc in the second half, helping Harrisburg add 10 three-pointer to their single season record total of 255. The Captains would put the game outreach in the fourth quarter, powering to a 92-66 victory.
