How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action at York (Pa.), 78-60, on Thursday night. The Lions were led by Anna Mahan who scored 18 points. Shanique Mattis also had a strong performance, recording anotehr double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

 

The Lions got off to a strong start with Kendis Butler scoring the Lions first 3-pointer of the night. Mattis added a pair of free throws as the teams battled for early control of the game. The Spartans would slowly gain control of the action, going on an 11-0 run to take a nine-point advantage. Laurel Amey would find Mattis for an open 3-ball as the quarter expired, closing back within six points. York (Pa.) would take control of the game in the in the second quarter building their advantage to as large as 24 points. At the half, Penn State Harrisburg trailed 42-19.

 

Mahan found her rhythm in the second half, powering the Lions offensive attack. Mahan scored all 18 of her points in the second half, including connecting four times from behind the arc. Butler and Miller also connected from deep but the Lions could not cool the Spartans hot shooting, preventing them from cutting into the deficit. The Spartans shot an impressive 46 percent from the field, keeping control of the game throughout the second half.  

 

Inside the Numbers

- Anna Mahan led the Lions with 18 points, including four 3-pointers

- Shanique Mattis recorded her second straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds

- The Lions won the rebounding battle 45-44, thanks to 10 rebounds from Briana Davis

- The Spartans were led by Logynn Fuller's 17 points

- The Blue & White connected on 10 3-pointers, bringing their season total to 213, ranking them third in the nation entering Friday

The Lions will return home to face Salisbury on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
