Lions Fourth Quarter Comeback Stopped Short

Lions Fourth Quarter Comeback Stopped Short

Doylestown, Pa.  – The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions hoped to get back on winning track when they traveled to battle Delaware Valley on Monday January 19th.  Despite taking a 7-0 lead to start the game, the Aggies rammed their way back on top on route to a 65-56 win.

Penn State Harrisburg Starters:

Ana Edmonson, Alexis Nolan, Kaitlyn Carmo, Tessa Dolce, Sidney Gordon

Haverford Starters:

Smink, Foy, Smallwood, Skedzielwski, Willis

How it Happened:

The Lions got on the board first taking an early 7-0 lead just 2:34 into the first quarter.  Unfortunately, Delaware Valley responded with a 16-4 run to finish the quarter and would never really look back.

The Aggies dominated the next two quarters and started the fourth up 52-37.  Penn State Harrisburg fought back strong narrowing the margin to just six with under three minutes to go.  Despite the valiant effort at the comeback win, Delaware Valley hit their shots from the free throw line when it mattered most and were able to hold on for the win.

Inside the numbers:

Harrisburg did extremely well on the offensive glass with 31 boards, but could not convert the extra opportunities shooting just 23% from the field.  The Aggies held the shooting edge at 29%.  Delaware Valley also took advantage of their trips to line scoring 33 points compared to the Lions 14.

Impact Performers:

Carmo and Nolan led the team with 15 and 10 points.  Carmo also finished second in boards with nine while Dolce gathered a team leading 11.  The Aggies Smink never left the court which helped her to lead all scorers with 26.

What's Next:

Penn State Harrisburg will get a little more than a week off for the Holiday break before continuing the long road stint putting them at Centenary (7-2) December 30th at 2:00 p.m.
