Carmo Leads the Lions Past Wesley

Middletown, Pa.- Wednesday January 20th, tonight the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team hosted Wesley in an important CAC matchup. Prior to the game, Wesley was in seventh place in the conference with Harrisburg close behind in eighth. The women led for the entire game and went on to win 69-54.

Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) put Harrisburg on the board after fighting for her own rebound and then her first bucket of the night. Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) drilled Harrisburg's first three of the game to give the Lions an early lead. Just a few minutes later, Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) knocked down a three to put Harrisburg up by six. As the second quarter got underway, the visitors went on a five point run to try and get ahead of Harrisburg. The Lions stayed strong with back to back baskets from Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township). Harrisburg led the Wolverines, 32-26, heading into the half.
 
Carmo came out hot in the second half with five points in the first three minutes of the half. Yanich followed in her footsteps with her own three, giving Harrisburg a 14 point lead. Freshman Brittany Ulrich (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) grabbed two straight buckets for Harrisburg as the third quarter came to a close. Wesley made several efforts in the second half to come back but Harrisburg stood strong. Carter came up big for Harrisburg with a double-double on the day, including 12 points and 14 rebounds. Carmo led offensively for the Lions with her own 20 points and seven rebounds. Head Coach Ross Patrick had several positive things to say after the Lions win, "This is the first time since November we have been full strength, we are learning how to put all of the pieces together. We are excited to be on the play off hunt through the first round of the conference and look at every game here on out as a play off game. We are very excited to seek our first CAC berth. Go Lions!"
 
Up next on the schedule for Harrisburg will be a home game on Saturday January 23rd. The women will host Salisbury at 1 pm.
