Copeland Nets 25; Lions Pick Up Tenth Win

Freshman scoring machine Mercedes Copeland (Reading Pa/ Reading)  netted a game-high 25 points to lead Penn State Harrisburg to a 72-65 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Jan. 19.

The Lady Lions continued to show they are gelling nicely as a team today on the road.  The game stayed fairly even from the start and was 10-8 in the lions favor at the 12:01 mark.  Then Amanda Moyer (Carlisle Pa./Cumberland Valley) helped start the first scoring drive of the game with 5 points out of  8 in a 8-0 run for the Lions over just two minutes.

Unfortunately SUNY followed it up with a 7-0 run of their own brining the game quickly back to within one point at 18-17 in the lions favor.  A 13-8 run to finish the half, would put the Lions down by five at Halftime.

The Lions had to fight hard to get back to even and eventually took the lead by just a point at the 11:11 mark.  The fighting tigers hit one free throw to tie the game, but a second 8-0 run by the Lions would give them only a short lived lead.   Cobbleskill matched it up immediately and tied the game at 62 a piece with 4:41 to play.

Things stayed tight until the last two minutes when junior Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) knocked down a jumper for two of her 17 total, giving the Lions a five point lead with 1:31 to play.

The lions worked off the clock nicely and finished with a 72-65 win, also their 10th conference win of the year.

"Cobleskill is always a tough gym to play in, but we had big plays from

Moyer, Zeanchock, and Copeland today. It is great to get another conference win on the road, and even better to get home and sleep in our own beds tonight!"  Coach Patrick was quoted following today's action.

The women won't get to relax long.  Harrisburg host the Wilson Phoenix Wednesday night at 7:00 at the CUB in Middletown.
