Dixon Makes History In Big Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa- Penn State Harrisburg senior Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) had a game for the record books against Penn State Berks on Saturday, Dec. 3.  The versatile guard notched a quadruple-double in the Lions' 91-42 blowout win.  Dixon's impressive stat line read as follows: 11 points and game-highs with 12 assists, 11 rebounds and ten steals.  The Middletown native's rare feat was the first in school history.

The Lions were tenacious on defense and forced 42 Berks' turnovers.  That scrappiness ignited the blue and white offense as the ladies used easy transition baskets to break out to an impressive 50-23 halftime lead.

The second half saw more of the same as Penn State Harrisburg dropped 41 on the visitors in the period while holding their opponents to just 19 points in the final 20 minutes.  The Lions' defense was so strong that seven of the eight ladies who saw playing time recorded at least one steal.

The offense was none too shabby either.  Coming into the game with Penn State Berks, the blue and white had averaged 51.2 points per game.  Thanks to shooting 52 percent from the field and 78 percent from the foul line, the Lions nearly doubled their previous average on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Steph Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) and Amanda Moyer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored a game-high 18 points apiece while junior forward Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) wasn't far behind with 15 and eight boards.  Junior guard Monet Cunningham (Highspire, PA/Bishop McDevitt) added 14 points and five assists.

With the victory, Penn State Harrisburg improved to 3-3 on the year and 2-0 against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) competition.  As nice as it was to remain undefeated in conference play, the story of the day centered on Dixon's stellar play.

"I don't think I've ever been around something like that before," said Head Coach Ross Patrick.

No one at Penn State Harrisburg had.

Until today that is.

The Lions next game comes on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when they travel to St. Elizabeth for their third NEAC contest of the season.
