Ladies Use Last-Second Heroics to Down Wells

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions were coming off of a 1-1 conference weekend where they fell to Keuka College and rebounded to win against Wells College on Sunday. The Lady Lions looked to improve their record Wednesday night as they played host to NEAC foe Penn State Berks.

The Lady Lions of Penn State Harrisburg overcame an early deficit and grabbed their second consecutive NEAC victory beating Penn State Berks, 71-68. The Lady Lions struggled to find their groove in the first half shooting just 28.0% from the floor but quickly recovered early in the second half and shot an impressive 51.7%.

Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led the Lady Lion squad with a near triple-double, scoring 12 points, recording 10 blocks and 9 rebounds.

The teams exchanged field goals throughout the second half, remaining near equal on the scoreboard. The momentum moved in the Lady Lions direction as Penn State Berks player Dorian Bishop fouled Brittani Guerre (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain West) and then received 2 technical fouls, giving the Lady Lions 6 to take from the charity stripe.  With the game tied at 64 after the fouls, the Lady Lions lost the lead until Dorthea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) laid in 2 points to put Penn State Harrisburg up by 1 with 20 seconds left. Seconds later Guerre was fouled and took another trip to the free throw line with 4 seconds remaining in the game. Guerre hit both free throws to give the Lady Lions the final 71-68 lead.

Guerre and Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) each contributed 11 points in Wednesday night's victory.

Taylor Kreider paced Penn State Berks with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Steph Binder added 13 and Channell Jones recorded 10.

The Lady Lions will continue NEAC play as they host Gallaudet University on Saturday, December 11th at 1:00 PM.
