Ladies Rebound to Win Consolation Prize at White Rose Tournament

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions opened the 2010-11 season at the White Rose City Classic Tournament at York College last weekend. The Lady Lions fell to the College of New Jersey in their first game of the weekend 54-68. Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led Penn State Harrisburg with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Lady Lions went back and forth with TCNJ keeping the game within a possession or two for most of the first half. TCNJ went on a 10-0 run late in the half to give them a 39-23 lead at the break. The Lady Lions were never able to recover as TCNJ extended their lead to 22 points at times through the second half.

TCNJ and Penn State Harrisburg were near equal in all statistical categories with the primary exception coming from the charity strip. TCNJ shot 27-42, where Penn State Harrisburg was 14-25.

Saturday's loss to TCNJ placed the Lady Lions in the consolation game on Saturday where they would face Rosemont College. Rosemont found themselves in the consolation game after losing to host York College.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a quick 16-6 lead behind a balanced offensive effort and kept the lead for most of the first half. Rosemont went on a quick 14-0 run late in the half to give them the 28-24 advantage at intermission.

Once Penn State Harrisburg regained the lead in the second half they never surrendered winning the game 71-64. The Lady Lions had three in double figures: Miranda Zeanchock (Carroltown, PA/Cambria Heights) with 20 and Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) and Nicola Zangari (Etters PA/Red Land) each adding 15. In the second half the Lady Lions outshot Rosement shooting 52.0% from the floor and 37.5% from the three point line while the Ravens shot 36.4% from the floor and went just 1-8 from the three point line.

In the championship game, the TCNJ Lions locked down the York College Spartans with their impressive defensive effort, taking the game 56-40. Tournament MVP and all-tournament honors were announced and Yetter's weekend performance earned her a spot on the all-tournament team.

The Lady Lions will travel to St. Mary's College on November 28th for a 1:00 PM contest.
