Balanced Scoring Attack Carries Lions to First NEAC Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions captured their first NEAC conference win at Tuesday night's home opener against College of St. Elizabeth, 63-57. A balanced scoring effort paced the Lady Lions through the physical conference game. Nicola Zangari (Etters, PA/Red Land) was the only Lady Lion in double figures with 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Every Lady Lion that saw minutes in Tuesday's game put points on the board. Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) and Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each added 9 points while Miranda Zeanchock (Carroltown, PA/Cambria Heights) and Leah Wilhelm (Annville, PA/Northern Lebanon) contributed 6.

The first half was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to score in the first ten minutes. Penn State Harrisburg found their rhythm and went on a late 10-0 run to give them the 35-25 advantage at the break.  Zangari led the Lady Lions through the first half with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Penn State Harrisburg led by as many as 13 in the second half and never gave up the lead. Offensively, the Lady Lions improved upon their poor first half shooting (29.2%) and knocked in 42.9% of their shots in the second half.

The Lady Lions defense was crucial in the win over St. Elizabeth as they caused 29 Eagle turnovers and scored 15 points off of those turnovers.

The Lady Lions will travel to New York this weekend to face NEAC opponents Keuka College and Wells College. On December 8, 2010 the Lady Lions will host Penn State Berks at 6:00 PM.
