Lady Lions Hang on for Win

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Harrisburg women´s basketball team captured their first victory in 2010 with a win over the visiting Knights of Arcadia University Wednesday, January 6th at the Capital Union Building with a 55-51 victory.

With Penn State Harrisburg shooting 40.6 percent from the field and Arcadia unable to get anything going on offense, shooting 28.6 percent, the 35-21 blue and white lead seem to be enough for the Lady Lions going into halftime.

After an Alyssa Stirling (Coatsville, PA/Coatsville) jump shot with 4:49 remaining in the second half, Penn State Harrisburg still controlled a commanding 11 point lead, 51-40. But it would be timely missed layups and free throws that would allow the Knights to bring Arcadia within three, 54-51, with 11 seconds to go.

It would be a Nicola Zangari (Etters, PA/Red Land) free throw with three seconds remaining to seal the deal for the Lady Lions and ensure the 55-51 win. Zangari led the blue and white with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Coming off the bench, Stirling finished with 10 points going 2-for-2 from behind the arc while shooting 4-for-7 from the field. Brittany Adams (Dillsburg, PA/Northern) contributed eight points, seven rebounds and five steals in the winning effort.

The Knight´s Angie Adams led all scorers with 16 points shooting 6-for 15 from the field. Jackie Law led all rebounders with 16 rebounds adding 14 points.

The Lady Lions improve to 5-6 on the season and travel to Saint Elizabeth College to face off against the 7-5 Eagles Saturday, January 9th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
