Penn State Harrisburg Advances to Quarterfinals

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Harrisburg women´s basketball team advance to the North Eastern Athletic Conference quarterfinals with a 68-55 win over Penn State Abington, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Capital Union Building.

In the first half of play the Lady Lions controlled the tempo, holding the visiting Lions to just 23.3 percent from the field, stopping any chance of a big run. Brittany Adams (Dillsburg, PA/Northern) led all scorers with nine points while teammate, Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata), dominated the paint with four blocks helping their team to a four point lead at intermission, 22-18.

Coming out of the break, Abington began to crack down the Lady Lions´ defense doubling their points within the first nine minutes of play. Only up by one with 11 minutes remaining, the blue and white were determined to capture their first playoff win, scoring a season-high 46 points in the second half en route to their 68-55 victory.

Yetter led Penn State Harrisburg with 13 points, shooting 3-of-8 from beyond the arc, adding nine rebounds and five blocks. Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) and Nicola Zangari (Etters, PA/Red Land)each collected 12 points with Zangari grabbing her 8th career double-double tailing a game-high 16 rebounds. Amaris Gardner (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) and Adams finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Trish Watson led all scorers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds and two steals. Rachel Lucchese contributed 12 points and five rebounds with teammates Samantha Frick and Elizabeth Hilbert scoring 11 and 10 respectively.

The Lady Lions will travel to Reading, Pennsylvania to face-off against number seeded Keuka College in a NEAC Quarterfinal game, Friday, February 26th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 P.M.
