Lady Lions Keep a Strong Hold on the Mustangs

MIDDLETOWN, PA - Strong rebounding by the Lady Lions led the blue and white to their seventh win on the season with a victory over conference opponent, Morrisville State College on Saturday, January 23rd at the Capital Union Building, 56-37.

The first half featured four ties and eight lead changes with both teams struggling from the field with Morrisville shooting 31.8 percent and Penn State Harrisburg going 9-for-35 (25.7 percent). After a combined 18 turnovers, the Lady Lions held a slight lead at halftime, 25-21.

Coming out of intermission the blue and white quickly dominated their opponent going on a 21-3 run the first eight minutes of 2nd half play. The Lady Lions would hold Morrisville to only four field goals and 16 points in the second half to ensure the victory.

Penn State Harrisburg would collect a season-high 58 rebounds en route to defeating the 3-13 Mustangs. Nicola Zangari (Etters, PA/Red Land) would collect a career-high 18 rebounds adding to her 4th double-double of her career with 12 points. Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) would finish with her 2nd career double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds going 10-for-14 from the charity stripe. Dorothea Dixon(Middletown, PA/Middletown) tailed 11 points and five rebounds in a winning effort.

 

Thelma Picardo was the only Mustang to reach double digits with 13 points adding three rebounds. Irena Longworth collected eight points and nine rebounds in the 53-37 defeat.
