Lady Lions have Roller Coaster Weekend

MIDDLETOWN, PA - With two physical games this weekend, the Penn State Harrisburg young women´s basketball team showed signs of the team they could be, losing to SUNY Cobleskill, 65-50, Saturday afternoon but beating a 3-1 SUNYIT team, 67-57 on Sunday.

 

In Saturday´s match-up, the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill set the tone early with their physical play and 45.2 shooting percentage in the first half to put them up by eight at halftime, 33-25.

The Lady Lions were able to pull within three coming out of halftime off the Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) layup from teammate Amaris Gardner (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside), but the Fighting Tigers continued their hard-nose play and forced the blue and white to shot a season low 25 percentage from the field.

In Sunda´s match, it was the Wildcats of SUNYIT coming out with a 12-3 run to start the game putting the young lions in hole early in the game. With antagonistic defense and aggressive offense, the Lady Lions were able to tie the game at 27 with :35 seconds to go in the first half. A Shikiera Dumas layup with :02 seconds remaining gave the Wildcats the halftime lead, 29-27.

After a Nicola Zangari (Etters, PA/Red Land) layup and a Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) three-pointer in the second half with 16:11 remaining, the blue and white would hold the lead and never look back, unleashing a 46.4 shooting percentage, going 4-for-10 behind the arc. SUNY IT was able to pull within two with 14:10 remaining, but Penn State Harrisburg was determined to post the victory.

Freshman Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Dixon both lead the blue and white this weekend with each recording 22 points (11.0/game) and 15 rebounds (7.5/game). Foose shot 7-for-14 from the field collecting four blocks (2.0/game) while Dixon grabbed 12 steals (6.0/game).

 

Penn State Harrisburg will next host Wilson College Wednesday, December 9th at the Capital Union Building. Tip-off is scheduled from 7:00 P.M.
