Lady Lions Gain Experience in Albright Tournament

READING, PA - The Penn State Harrisburg women´s basketball team posted a 0-2 record this weekend against host, Albright College, and Rowan University in the Albright Women´s Basketball Tip-off Tournament.

 

In Saturday´s game, the Lady Lions were matched up against Albright College. The blue and white played nose to nose with the 1-0 host team, leading 11-10 the first ten minutes of play off a layup from sophomore Amaris Gardner (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside). After an Albright timeout, the hosting Lions went on a 26-7 run to finish out the first half.

In the second half, the Lady Lions were able to cut the deficit to 13 with four minutes remaining in regulation off another Gardner layup, but Penn State Harrisburg was unable to find the bottom of the net in the remaining minutes to ensure the Albright win, 67-52.

On Sunday, Harrisburg faced off against Rowan University. The Lady Lions played tough defense and made timely shots to hold a 35-31 lead at halftime, but it was the second half that shape the story of this game with Rowan outscoring Harrisburg 50-25 in the second half to collect the 81-60 win.

Freshman Daril Foose (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led the blue and white averaging 14 points per game on 9-of-15 shooting, seven rebounds a game tailing eight blocks. Sophomore Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) averaged 12 points per game shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc collecting 6.5 rebounds per game with seven steals. Gardner finished with 9 points per game and 4.5 rebounds a game.

 

After the holiday break the blue and white will host Valley Forge Christian College Tuesday, December 1st at the Capital Union Building. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
