Penn State Harrisburg Sweeps Doubles En Route to Well-Earned Victory

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis program remainded undefeated and enjoyed a solid victory against Goucher on Thursday Sep. 27.  The men's squad took down the visiting Gophers by a score of 7-2.

In doubles action, the men's top pairing of Ben Leibig (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) and Evgeny Matigullin (New Bloomfield, Pa. / Susquenita) had everyone on their feet as they finished off Goucher's number one team 8-4 with a strong performance.  Penn State Harrisburg' number two team of Vinnie Lepore (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset) and Zachry Warriner (Montrose, Pa. / Montrose) finished with a win of 8-5.  The Lions third group of David Pottle (York, Pa. / Central York) and Vishnu Gopalakrishnan (Ashburn, Va. / Briar Woods) easily took down their opposition 8-1 to give the blue and white an early lead heading into singles action.

Penn State Harrisburg kept the momentum rolling in the singles round.  Leibig and Matigullin, the number one and two players were the only Lions who would suffer defeats on the day.  Warriner, Lepore, Pottle and Tyler Loy (Annville, Pa. / Annville Cleona) all brought their A-games and were rewarded with wins for their efforts.  Warriner had a great day and just missed recording the rare feat of a "golden set" as he only allowed his opponent two total points in the first set on his way to a 6-0, 6-3 win playing in the team's number five slot.

The defending North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champions will get right back on the court this Saturday and Sunday, Sep. 29 and Sep. 30 at an ITA invitational hosted at Mary Washington University.
