Cartmill Named NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week

MIDDLETOWN, Pa- Penn State Harrisburg's number one singles player, Josh Cartmill (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), has been named the North Eastern Athletic Conference's (NEAC) Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for the time period ending Sunday, Apr. 22.  The junior's strong weekend helped the Lions clinch their second-straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division championship.

The Cumberland Valley grad went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play to remain undefeated on the year in both categories against conference opponents.  He began the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 singles victory over Penn State Abington's number one in Nigel Hopkinson on Saturday, Apr. 21.  He also paired up with teammate Evgeny Matigullin (New Bloomfield, PA/Susquenita) to take down the opposing Lions' top doubles duo 8-6.  Cartmill's wins proved crucial to Penn State Harrisburg's 5-4 overall victory.

The ex-Eagle followed it up with a stellar performance against Keuka the very next day.  He easily downed the Storm's number one singles player Justin Fries 6-3, 6-0 and again teamed with Matigullin in doubles action.  The pair quickly finished off their opponent's top duo 8-1 en route to the Lions' 9-0 team victory.

The wins improved the blue and white to 10-6 on the year and 4-0 in conference play, and capped the team's second consecutive division championship-winning regular season.
