Men's Soccer Secures Shutout Victory Over Gallaudet

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team picked up another valuable conference victory with a decisive 6-0 shutout of United East foe Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8. 

 

Alex Afata and Ben Stuckert each netted a pair of goals, while Daniel Fombu finished with three points behind a marker and an assist. 

 

Fombu got the scoring started with his goal in the 17th minute and followed it up by finding Afata for his first strike of the day less than six minutes later. Afata added his second marker of the afternoon little more than a minute later off a feed from Daryl Lucas to push the advantage to 3-0 and Stuckert tacked on an insurance goal off an Ethan Cortes helper to up the lead to four less than a minute before halftime.

 

After the break, Kobe Harris got into the scoring act with a goal in the 49th minute and Stuckert put a cap on the day's scoring when he converted his second marker of the game off a find from Alexander Benbatoul with less than seven minutes remaining.

 

NOTABLES

- The program honored Esteban Leon, Lucas, and Jonathan Gartley pregame as part of its Senior Day ceremony.

- The Lions outshot Gallaudet 18-0.

- Penn State Harrisburg finished with a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.

- The shutout was the team's third clean sheet of the season.

- Thanks to his three points, Fombu increased his team-leading total to 20 on the year.

- Harris' goal was his seventh of the year; second only to Fombu's eight.

- Afata's markers were the first of his collegiate career.

The Lions take a break from conference play to travel to Dickinson on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
