Men's Soccer Earns Second Straight Draw

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - On Saturday afternoon, Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team battled to its second draw in as many outings, securing a 1-1 tie against Stevenson. 

 

The Lions (0-0-2) landed the first blow when Marc Rodgers headed home a ball past Stevenson goalkeeper Kristian Slaby off a well-placed cross from Dillon Gough in the game's 15th minute.

 

The home team's advantage held until late in the second half when an aggressive attack resulted in Tiago Silva finishing off a Joe Nicholson feed from point-blank range to tie things up for the Mustangs (0-0-2) with less than 18 minutes left to play.

 

NOTABLES

- For Rodgers, his first-half goal was the second of his career.  

- In just the third game of his career, Gough recorded his first collegiate point. 

- Stevenson finished with narrow advantages in total shots (8-7) and shots on goal (4-3).

- The Lions held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

- Penn State Harrisburg was whistled for 20 fouls compared to nine for the Mustangs.

- Esteban Leon made three saves in goal for the Lions.

- Saturday's contest was the first meeting between the programs since 2011. 

 

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions take to the road for the first time this season when they travel to Rosemont on Wednesday night, Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
