BACK-TO-BACK! Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight Conference Title; Earns NCAA Tournament Berth

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The No. 20 Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team defeated Lancaster Bible 3-1 in the 2021 United East Championship Game to capture the program's second consecutive conference title on Saturday night, Nov. 6.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

There's more hardware headed to Middletown, as Penn State Harrisburg (15-1-1) won its second straight conference championship thanks to a 3-1 victory over Lancaster Bible (10-5-4) in front of the Blue & White faithful on Saturday night. For his efforts, Sebastian Krysztofowicz was named the United East Championship Tournament's most valuable player.

 

The Lions struck first midway through the first half when Daniel Fombu buried the game's first goal off an assist from Joey Aman in the 25th minute. Before the first half was through, the Blue & White doubled the advantage when Daryl Lucas corralled a pass from Zach Ullum and fired his shot past LBC goalkeeper Isaac Barrow from point-blank range in the 39th minute.

 

The Chargers finally broke through early in the second half when Nathan Muckle deflected home a marker off a quick touch from Chad Tolson following a free kick from Kedric Yoder in the 57th minute.

 

Penn State Harrisburg halted the visitors' momentum less than 10 minutes later, however, by taking advantage of a Lancaster Bible foul. Krysztofowicz ripped a free kick through a group of LBC defenders and into the back of the net in the 66th minute to cap the game's scoring and give the top seed the insurance it needed.

 

 

NOTABLES

- The conference title is the second all-time for Penn State Harrisburg. The Lions accomplished the same feat in 2019.

- Sebastian Krysztofowicz netted two goals in as many games to earn tournament MVP honors.

- The Blue & White finished with advantages in both shots (11-4) and shots on goal (7-4).

- Each team earned four corner kicks.

- Daniel Fombu's goal was his eighth of the season.

- With his assist, Joey Aman increased his team-leading points total to 29 on the year.

- Daryl Lucas' marker was his fourth of the fall, while Zach Ullum's helper was his ninth assist of the season.

- Nicholas Guglielmetti made three saves in goal to earn the victory.

- Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Isaac Barrow made four stops in a losing effort.

 

WHO'S NEXT?

Penn State Harrisburg is headed to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the second straight season. The Lions will learn their first-round opponent during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
