Men's Soccer Opens the Season With Shutout Victory

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – After a nearly two-year hiatus, Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer opened the 2021 season in impressive fashion, shutting out Clarks Summit 5-0 on Friday afternoon, Sept. 3.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Joey Aman netted the first goal of Penn State Harrisburg's 2021 campaign, Daniel Fombu debuted with a pair of scores in his first collegiate contest, and Michael Albers and Ben Stuckert found the back of the net once each in a decisive season-opening victory on Friday afternoon.

 

Aman got the scoring started in the fourth minute with a beautiful finish off assists from Jose Palomeque and Zach Ullum. Nearly 30 scoreless minutes ensued before Albers doubled the Blue & White advantage with a goal off another Palomeque helper in the 33rd minute.

 

It didn't take long for the Lions to strike again when Fombu found twine off assists from Marc Rodgers and Stuckert less that three minutes later. With the final seconds ticking away in the first half, Fombu struck again off a pass from Katim Njie with just one second left before the horn.

 

Stuckert put an exclamation point on the day's scoring when he netted a marker 21 minutes into the second half.   

 

NOTABLES

- Joey Aman netted the first goal at Penn State Harrisburg's new turf field after registering the final goal ever scored at the program's grass venue in 2019.

- In his first collegiate outing, Daniel Fombu found the back of the net twice.

- The Lions racked up 32 shots, including 20 on frame.

- The Blue & White defense held Clarks Summit to just two attempts on the day.

- CSU goalkeeper Liam Hungate made 15 saves on the day.

- Nick Guglielmetti did not have to make a stop in net to earn the victory.

 

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions finish off their opening weekend by hosting Alvernia on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
