LATHAM, N.Y. – Penn State Harrisburg's Shammah Gahomera has been named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz was voted the league's coach of the year by his peers. In total, seven players earned NEAC All-Conference accolades.
In addition to being tabbed defensive player of the year, Gahomera was joined on the all-conference first team by Joey Aman and Nicholas Guglielmetti. Jared Brewer and Luke Myers were named second-team all-conference picks, while Jacob Krantweiss and Mason Jones earned all-conference third-team recognition.
Krzyzanowicz's coach of the year award comes following a regular season that saw the Lions match a single-season program record with 14 victories and finish 10-1 in NEAC play. He guided the Blue & White to a regular season conference championship, recently won his 50th game since taking over at Penn State Harrisburg and is nearing the 250-win mark for his career.
Gahomera anchored the NEAC's top defensive unit and helped to hold opponents to less than one goal per game. Behind the junior's strong play, the Lions posted an impressive 0.88 goals-allowed average and surrendered just 17 markers this fall. Despite his role as an outside back, he also ranked seventh in the conference with his team-leading five assists and added a pair of goals to tally 11 total points on the year. He earned NEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors last month.
Aman's most-recent accolade comes one year after being named to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) All-Conference Second Team and he proved one of the conference's top offensive players this fall. The junior racked up 11 goals and 24 total points; both numbers are good enough to rank him third among league players. His four game winners were tops among NEAC players and he added a pair of assists. He was twice named the NEAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season.
Guglielmetti turned in an outstanding junior campaign that saw him lead the conference with a 0.73 goals-against average. The goalkeeper has made 40 saves and surrendered just 13 goals this season, and he currently ranks second in the nation with 11 shutout victories.
Brewer expanded his role on the back line as a junior this fall and was key in helping to hold opponents to less than one score per contest. In addition to his defensive prowess, the center back also netted his first collegiate goal earlier this season.
Myers burst onto the scene for the Lions, playing in every game as a freshman this year and starting nearly every one of them. The midfielder netted one goal this season and added three helpers to tally five total points. He was named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season.
Krantweiss proved valuable and versatile in the midfield this fall, consistently providing the spark to push the offense forward and sagging back to provide support to the defensive unit when need be. The sophomore also netted the first marker of his career earlier this year.
Jones provided another anchor on the back line opposite Gahomera this season, forcing opponents to work hard for every ball with little success. The junior contributed to each of the team's double-digit shutouts, netted his first career goal and added three assists to record five total points this fall.
