Lions Ride Strong First Half to Home Opening Win

Middletown Pa. - The Harrisburg Blue and White men's soccer team are looking stronger than ever this season.  They had an impressive pre-season 2-2 tie against Division 2 powerhouse Millersville and have looked sharp throughout the first couple of weeks of training. Unfortunately last weekend the men faced a tough Elmira opponent and despite playing well were handed a 2-1 defeat on the long road trip.

Playing under the lights for their home opener had all the makings of an exciting night of soccer.  The stands were filled, the air was cool, and the men were ready to show the home town crowd what all the hype was truly about.  Harrisburg wasted no time putting on the show of athletic ability and skill.  Just 14 minutes into the game the Lions had already scored 4 goals.

Harrisburg would finish the first half scoring 9 unanswered goals against the visiting Patriots.  Justin Henderson and Austin Katz were the big point earners of the night scoring two goals apiece.  Tommy Miller led the team with two assist to go along with his game winner scoring the first goal of the night.

During the second half the Blue and White really showed their strength as a squad.  It appeared the men were put under some play restrictions to force the team to keep possession and play simple.  It was an impressive half of ball movement as the men kept the ball completely under control throughout the entire second half.   They kept their poise and possession, but did not score throughout the final 45 minutes.  Valley Forge also deserved credit for fighting hard every single minute of the match while staying positive as a team.

Harrisburg now 1-1 heads on the road this Saturday to face off against Mt Aloysius alongside the women for their first joint road trip of the season.
