HERSHEY, PA - It was a record-breaking day for the Penn State-Harrisburg golf team, as they posted a second-place finish today, out of 11 teams, at the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Spring Classic.
The Lions fired a 301 over the East course at Hershey Country Club, falling to Messiah College by just one shot. The 301 is a school record for Penn State-Harrisburg. The previous mark of 309 was set two years ago in a home event at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
In addition, Max Hrip (So-Cumberland Valley) and Bobby Proietto (Fr-Lower Dauphin) both fired a 1-over 72 today. That number eclipses the previous school individual standard, 74, set by Shane Woodman last spring in a home tri-match. Other Penn State-Harrisburg scores today included Geoff Morrison (Jr-Bishop McDevitt) firing a 76, Woodman (Jr-Donegal) posting an 81, and Brad Goss (Jr-Palymra) finishing with an 85.
Hrip and Proietto posted two of the four 72's on the day, with a match of scorecards declaring Hrip the individual runner-up in the 60-player field
Penn State-Harrisburg gets back into action Sunday at Dauphin Highlands, as they host the two-day Penn State-Harrisburg Spring Classic. The tournament gets underway at noon.
