julia choe looks back at a play during a win over penn state berks in 2023

LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team battled to the very end before its season came to a close in a five-set defeat at Lancaster Bible in the United East Volt Division Semifinal on Tuesday night, Nov. 7. The Lions overcame an early 2-0 deficit before ultimately falling 25-20, 25-19, 25-27, 23-25, 15-7.

Hannah DeGregory finished with 11 kills, 17 assists, and eight block assists, while Julia Choe racked up 28 digs. Tiniira Tubo recorded five service aces and Amoi Willis tallied nine block assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After dropping the first two sets, Penn State Harrisburg (12-16) scratched and clawed its way back thanks to two close victories in the third and fourth sets, respectively. Lancaster Bible (18-10) led 19-14 late in the third but the Lions put together a key spurt during a Tubo service run, scoring eight points in a row capped by a DeGregory kill before blocks from Willis and Carolina Hernandez and an LBC attack error sealed the win for the visitors.

The fourth set saw Penn State Harrisburg lead for much of the contest and back-to-back kills from Hernandez and Camryn Wettstone off DeGregory assists made it 21-15 in crunch time. The Lions kept the Chargers at bay before the home team made a late push to pull to within two but an attack error clinched the game for the visitors and forced a fifth and deciding set.

The final set was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded points until the 5-5 mark. From there, Lancaster Bible put together a momentum changing run that saw the Chargers score seven points in a row before closing things out on an attack error to escape their home floor with the victory and advance to the United East Volt Division Final.
