Volleyball Earns Two More Wins In Tri-Match Action

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 after beating both Goucher and Notre Dame (Md.) at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 2. 

 

The Lions (3-0) faced Goucher (0-1) in the first match and secured the victory in three sets at 25-20, 25-14, 25-25 before impressing in a back-and-forth contest against Notre Dame (Md.) that resulted in a 25-20, 22-25, 30-28, 25-18 win in the final outing of the afternoon. 

 

In the opener, Penn State Harrisburg got out to an early lead in all three sets thanks to the offensive duo of Emmaline Stevens and Tiniira Tubo, as the two racked up more than 20 kills combined. The Lions relied on upperclassman Katie Richardson from her setter position as she contributed 35 total assists. On the defensive end, Julia Choe surpassed the double-digit dig mark. 

 

 

The Lions' second match of the day against the Gators (1-1) was a back-and-forth battle from the start. Penn State Harrisburg took the first set 25-20 before Notre Dame (Md.) secured the second set to draw even overall. The third set went extra points due to 21 lead changes between the two teams. The Blue & White sealed their third victory of the season with a fourth-set score of 25-18 to end the day. 

 

NOTABLES

- In the setter position, Richardson tallied 35 assists against Goucher, while Hannah DeGregory totaled 42 assists against Notre Dame (Md.). 

- Brianna Ondishin Ribon recorded six kills in the first outing and nine in the second. 

- Stevens totaled 24 kills over both matches and added 17 digs. 

- Tubo racked up 22 total kills in both outings along with four aces. 

- Choe dominated on defense and finished with 32 digs on the day. 

- In the second match, four different Lions provided double-digit digs (Choe, DeGregory, Stevens, and Kate Bukowski).

The Lions are set to host Misericordia at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Sept. 5.
