Women's Volleyball Fights Back to Earn Tri-Match Split

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team split a pair of matches with Rutgers-Camden and Wilkes at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, dropping the opener before winning the final outing of the day. 

 

After falling to Rutgers-Camden (3-5) in three sets in the first contest, the Lions (6-4) responded with a four-set victory over Wilkes in their last match of the afternoon. Penn State Harrisburg dropped a hard-fought first set before reeling off three straight to secure a 26-28, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18 win over the Colonels (1-8). 

 

Anna Ruff's excellent offensive week continued against Wilkes, while Tiniira Tubo and Tori Henderson also chipped in with double-digit kills. The trio combined for 40 kills in the win. Olivia Koicuba and Hannah DeGregory led the way on defense and DeGregory also performed well as the team's primary setter in the victory. 

 

NOTABLES

- The tri-match served as Penn State Harrisburg's Heroes Match honoring military personnel, first responders, and health care workers. 

- Ruff had another strong outing in the win, finishing with 14 kills on .407 hitting. 

- Tubo was also stout, tallying 13 kills on .455 hitting and recording three total blocks.

- Henderson was versatile, posting 13 kills, 16 digs, and a pair of service aces.

- DeGregory racked up 36 assists, 20 digs, and two aces.

- Koicuba dug out 20 balls, added six assists, and finished with three aces.

- Julia Choe was impressive on the serve, recording a match-high six aces. 

 

WHO'S NEXT? 

The Lions wrap up a four-match homestead when they host Moravian on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
