Womens Tennis Conquers Roanoke

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team defeated Roanoke 7-2 during their third day of spring break competition on Wednesday afternoon, March 6. 

 

The Lions (4-5) raced out to a 3-0 overall lead in doubles play and worked hard to keep the lead thanks to clutch singles play from Anita Liu and Hailey Dey

 

Allison Wootton and Breanna DeSantis set the tone in doubles action by rolling to an 8-1 victory over Roanoke's Bella Gustafon and Hallie Fernstrum in the top matchup. The No. 2 contest saw Olivia Bandini and Liu team up to top the Maroons' Zane Maiden and Lia Streibich 8-6. Sarah Shaub and Dey made it a clean sweep of doubles with their 8-5 win over Julia Bassett and Camryn Breedlove in the third outing. 

 

The momentum carried over into singles competition, with Wootton besting Streibich 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 slot and Bandini taking care of Fernstrum 6-0, 6-4 in the second contest. DeSantis and Shaub both fell to their respective competitors in the third and firth singles matchups. Liu, however, won a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5 contest in the fourth outing, while Dey finished things off with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Breedlove in the No. 6 matchup. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg continues their time in South Carolina on Friday evening, March 8 as they face off against Cornell College. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
