Women's Tennis Picks Up First Victory

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team nabbed its first victory of the young season thanks to a 6-3 decision against Immaculata at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30.

 

Penn State Harrisburg (1-1) took two of three from IU (0-1) in doubles play, as Samantha Bogush and Breanna DeSantos defeated the Mighty Macs' Annamarie Degnan and Pam Kontaras 8-4 in the No. 1 contest before Sarah Shaub and Cristina Garza topped Jenna Muttik and Audrey Keen by the same score in the No. 3 matchup.

 

The Blue & White saw more success in singles action, with Bogush and DeSantos remaining perfect on the day. Bogush went over Degnan 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 match and DeSantos took care of Jessica Dougherty 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) in the No. 2 outing. Isabella Pizzelanti and Shaub earned convincing wins, as Pizzelanti secured a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Kelly O'Brien in the No. 4 matchup, while Shaub defeated Muttik 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 contest.

 

The Lions will be back in action when they host Gettysburg for another non-conference tilt at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
