W. Tennis Defeats NVU-Johnson, Earns NCAA Tournament Berth

JOHNSON, Vt. – Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis defeated Northern Vermont Johnson 9-0 on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated on the season, win the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)/North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Match, and secure an automatic berth to the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

 

It was all Blue & White in doubles play, with the top two teams picking up sweeps. The No. 1 duo of Rachael Lim and Sydney Nye bested Mason Lores and Rebecca Simon 8-0, as did Olivia Hitz and Isabella Pizzelanti over Kayla Hammond and Kristen Tirrito in the second matchup. Gabrielle Sabatose and Mary Connolly finished things off with an 8-5 win over Annika Dyhrberg and Nicole Mooney in the No. 3 contest.

 

The momentum carried over in to singles action, with Lim, the reigning NEAC Player of the Year, sweeping Lores 6-0, 6-0 in the top outing, and Nye handling Simon 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 contest. Hitz went over Mia Blackwell 6-0, 6-1 in the third matchup, while Sabatose made quick work of Hammond in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 4 meeting. Annalisa Petrascu bested Mooney 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot and Pizzelanti defeated Tirrito 6-0, 6-1 in the final solo contest.

 

With the victory, the Lions improved to 8-0 on the season. Penn State Harrisburg will find out its NCAA Tournament opponent when the organization releases its NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Selection release on Monday, May 10.
