Five Reach Double Figures for Women's Hoops at Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team came out firing and never let up in a lopsided 91-70 road victory over conference foe Penn State Abington on Tuesday night, Feb. 15.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (15-8, 10-5 United East) never trailed in a rout of Penn State Abington (7-15, 6-8 United East) on Tuesday night. The victory for the Lions completed the regular-season sweep of their conference foe. 

 

Five players reached the double-digit scoring mark, as Kendis Butler led the way with a 17 points, while Jayla Galbreath, Ciani Redd-Howard, and Giahny Correa netted 13 points apiece, and Jenna Montana finished with 10 of her own.

 

The Lions knocked down six 3-pointers to begin the game, with Galbreath and Butler connecting on two each, to race out to an 18-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Redd-Howard added a triple, Correa converted an old-fashioned 3-point play, and Butler buried another from beyond the arc to stretch the advantage to 31-14 after one.

 

Anna Mahan pushed the lead to 20 for the first time when she converted a pair of free throws at the 7:43 mark of the second quarter and 3-balls from Montana and Redd-Howard made it 42-19 with 2:39 left before halftime.

 

Redd-Howard and Galbreath combined to score Penn State Harrisburg's first dozen points after the break before Correa added a bucket and Butler knocked down her fifth 3-ball of the night to make it 62-36 at the 5:11 mark of the third quarter. 

 

The final frame was academic as the visitors never allowed Penn State Abington to cut the deficit to anything less than 18 points. Macy Carroll connected on two jumpers from beyond the arc during the fourth quarter and Correa converted four free throws int he final minute to put the game on Ice.

- Penn State Harrisburg's 16 3-pointers proved the difference, as the home team managed just three triples.

- The Blue & White racked up 17 assists on their 29 made field goals.

- Kendis Butler knocked down five 3-pointers and tallied a team-high 17 points. She added four rebounds and two assists.

- Giahny Correa finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists off the bench.

- Alli Walton added seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks in a reserve role. 

- Angela Sanders scored 21 points on 20 shots to lead the scoring for Abington.

The Lions conclude the regular season with a showdown at United East rival Lancaster Bible on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
