Women's Basketball's Comeback Bid Falls Short at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team overcame a pair of double-digit deficits but couldn't seal the deal on the road in a 61-53 setback to United East foe St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday night, Feb. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (11-7, 6-4 United East) expended a lot of energy climbing back into things on two separate occasions, including overcoming a 10-point deficit midway through the third quarter, before coming up just short in a slim loss at St. Mary's (9-9, 7-4 United East) on Tuesday night.

Kendis Butler netted a team-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the way, while Jenna Montana was very efficient in racking up 11 points to go along with three steals, three boards, and a pair of assists. Ciani Redd-Howard and Giahny Correa chipped in with eight points apiece.

After erasing a 44-34 second-half deficit and drawing even with the Seahawks entering the fourth quarter, Butler twice gave the Lions the lead – first with a jumper that made it 48-46 with 7:16 left to play and again with a 3-ball off a Redd-Howard assist that made it 51-48 with 4:50 remaining.

From there, however, the visitors went cold from the floor, and a four-minute scoreless drought ensued. By the time Butler broke through with another jumper with 40 seconds left, the Blue & White found themselves down 57-53. Penn State Harrisburg fouled to extend the game but St. Mary's made enough free throws to keep the Lions at arm's length and prevented them from getting off a good look in the closing seconds.
