How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg celebrated its Senior Day by defeating North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Keuka on Saturday, Feb. 15 by a score of 63-58.

Before the game the Lions honored seniors Sidney Gordon, Nicole Hill, and Madison Hemler. The Lions (11-11, 9-4) got off to a slow start, with the game being tied at five after a 3-pointer by Gordon with 4:23 remaining in the opening quarter. Keuka (9-11, 5-8) would close the first quarter on a 9-2 run, holding a seven point advantage heading to the second quarter.

Jayla Galbreath got the Lions offense going, connecting on a 3-pointer to start the second quarter. Anna Mahan would follow with a 3-pointer of her own, pulling the Lions back within three-points. Galbreath would continue the 3-point barrage, connecting on her second of the quarter, pulling Harrisburg to within one point. The teams would trade baskets, until Laurel Amey gathered in an offense rebound, got fouled on the put back, and completed a three-point play giving Harrisburg their first lead of the game. The Wolves would score the final four points of the half, holding a 26-24 advantage at the break.

Madison Hemler got the Lions offense going in the second half, finish a layup on a pass from Sidney Hemler. Moments later, Amey came away with a steal, scoring a layup in transition. Kendis Butler would give the Lions a one-point lead with a 3-pointer. The teams would trade the lead, several times in the quarter, with Keuka holding a 43-38 lead.

The Lions looked to rally back again in the fouth quarter, with a layup from Amey pulling Harrisburg back with three-points. Mahan would tie the game a 43 moments later with a 3-pointer. Mahan led the Lions in scoring with 17 points. Later with game tied at 45, Amey would again complete a three-point play to give the Blue & White the lead. Harrisburg would use layups by Amey and Madison Hemler to grow the lead to five points with just over four minutes remaining. Keuka tried to rally back, but 3-pointers from Mahan and Galbreath prevented any comeback, and the Lions held on for a 63-58 victory.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions offense was led by Laurel Amey who recorded a double-double scoring 16 points while pulling in 10 rebounds

- Anna Mahan had an excellent outing, scoring 17 points while gathering 13 rebounds

- Jayla Galbreath connected on four 3-pointers, scoring 16 points

- Seniors Madison Hemler, Nicole Hill, and Sidney Gordon all started

- The Lions won the rebounding battle, holding a 42-40 advantage

- Keuka was led by Riley Record who scored 16 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc

Playoff Picture

Penn State Harrisburg remains a game behind Lancaster Bible in the NEAC South, but can clinch a spot in the NEAC Playoffs with a win over Penn State Berks on Tuesday.
