How It Happened
Penn State Harrisburg fell to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action, 65-42. The Lions were led by Laurel Amey, who scored 14 points while gathering in five rebounds.
The Lions got off to a slow start, due in part to full court pressure from Salisbury, falling behind by as many 16 points. The offense would start to find its rhythm late in the quarter, sparked by a basket from Abrianna Hamby that just as the shot clock expired. Anna Mahan would then connect on a jump shot from inside the three point line. Briana Davis would hit the team's first three-pointer bringing the first quarter to a close with the Lions on a 7-2 run.
Salisbury would take back control in the second quarter, using their length to bother the Lions three-pointer shooters holding the offense to just four points in the quarter. The Sea Gulls would build the lead to as large as 26 points in the third quarter, but Harrisburg would start to rally late in the quarter. Laurel Amey and Kendis Butler knocked down three's on back-to-back possessions sparking a run. Katie Humphrey would drive for a layup, to close out a 10-0 run and pulling within 16 points heading to the final quarter. The Sea Gulls quickly recaptured momentum in the final quarter, squashing any hopes of a comeback for the Lions.
Inside the Numbers
- Laurel Amey led all scorers with 14 points, while collecting five rebounds
- Anna Mahan scored six points and gathered in a team high nine rebounds
- The Sea Gulls were led by Kaylee Otlowski, who scored 10 points and gathered 13 rebounds
- Harrisburg connected on five 3-pointers bringing their season total to 218, ranking them third nationally entering the game
