How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg could not keep pace with St. Mary's College falling 66-50. Shanique Mattis and Kendis Butler each scored 12 points, but Lions could not overcome shooting 19.2 percent from the floor.

In the first quarter both teams struggled to find their rhythm offensively, with the Seahawks taking a four point advantage. Kendis Butler would connect on the Lions first three-pointer of the game with just over a minute remaining in the opening quarter, pulling Harrisburg back within a point heading to the second quarter.

The Seahawks would respond going an 8-0 run to open the second quarter as the Lions struggled to connect from behind the arc. Shanique Mattis would finally break the run with a three-pointer to pull back within five points before the second quarter media timeout. After the timeout, Briana Davis would connect from way behind the arc. The Seahawks offense seemed to have answer mostly coming thanks to strong interior play, helping them hold a 31-18 lead heading into a halftime.

St. Mary's would take control in the second half, build a 25-point advantage midway through the quarter. The Lions would make some defensive adjustments, applying full court pressure sparking a run late in the quarter. Butler would connect on a pair of three's to pull the Lions back within 14 points heading into the final quarter.

Harrisburg would close within 12 points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to pull any closer as St. Mary's picked up the 66-50 victory.

Inside the Numbers

- Shanique Mattis came up just short of a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds

- Kendis Butler also scored 12 points and she added 8 rebounds

- Briana Davis reached double figures scoring 10 points including connecting three times from behind the arc

- The Lions won the rebounding battle, 51-50

- St. Mary's was led by Gina Seifert who scored 19 points

- The Lions added eight more three's bring their season total to 193 this season

The Lions will be back on the road when they travel to Southern Virginia on Saturday January 26 at 1 p.m.
