Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes #12 UMW Past Harrisburg

Middletown, Pa.- The Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team faced the 12th ranked Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday January 7th. The Lion's posted an impressive first half performance before the Eagles pulled ahead in the fourth quarter to defeat Harrisburg 67-50.

How it Happened:

-The first quarter proved to be difficult offensively for both teams as the visitors led heading into the second quarter with only a one point lead over Harrisburg.

-Kaitlyn Carmo put Harrisburg back on track with four straight points at the beginning of the second to put the Lion's back on top. Raven Ransom extended the Lion's lead with a jumper just a few seconds later to put Harrisburg on top 17-13. Carmo added seven more points before the half to lead the Eagles 27-22

-The Eagles cut the deficit in the third quarter with a 7-0 run to give UMW the lead for the first time in the second half at 29-27 with 6:44 to go left in the third. The lead would change five times throughout the rest of the quarter before Harrisburg pulled ahead 35-34 entering the fourth quarter thanks to a late three from Ana Edmondson

-The Lion's struggled to keep up with the Eagles in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 33-15. The Eagles fourth quarter surge proved to be too much for Harrisburg

Inside the Numbers:
Both teams struggled from the field in the first quarter as Harrisburg shot 3-14 while the Eagles made only 2-11 field goals. Penn State Harrisburg had a strong second quarter, pulling ahead 27-22 at the half. Harrisburg shot 17-59 from the floor (29%), making 7-27 three point tries and 9-13 free throws. 

Impact Performers:
Kaitlyn Carmo led for Harrisburg with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Carmo's performance on Saturday afternoon shot her past the 1,000 career point mark as a Nittany Lion. Tessa Dolce recorded 11 rebounds and 4 points. Kendall Parker led for the Eagles with 26 points and 1 rebound.
