Yanich Leads Harrisburg in Loss to D II Mansfield

Middletown, Pa.- Tuesday November 24, this evening the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team faced Mansfield in a non-conference match up. The Lions came out strong and led going into halftime 31-29. The Mountaineers pulled away in the second half and defeated Harrisburg, 78-60.

Penn State Harrisburg got on the board right away with the first bucket of the game from Becca Bailey (Tobyhanna, Pa. / Notre Dame East Stroudsburg). The first half  was a battle back and forth between both teams. Senior guard Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) hit two three pointers back to back to give Harrisburg the lead at 15-12. In the last few minutes of the second quarter, sophomore Alexis Nolan (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) hit a three to extend Harrisburg's lead to 28-24. Yanich sealed the women's first half lead at 31-29 with her third three of the game.

Mansfield came out firing in the second half scoring the first five points to regain the lead 34-31 early in the third.  Both teams would exchange buckets for most of the quarter and the Lions used a 10-5 run to close out the quarter down just two points 50-48.  Unfortunately, the Mountaineers started the fourth quarter with a 14-2 run that separated the two teams when it mattered most.  Penn State Harrisburg fought to stay in the game, but they were unable to overcome the deficit as Mansfield continue to score throughout the final quarter.  Yanich led for the Lions with a season high of 17 points, and three rebounds. Lucky Snypse (Philadelphia, Pa. / George Washington Carver) came up big for Harrisburg with 11 rebounds and five points.

The Lions battled with the Division II PSAC school for most of the game.  After an impressive start to the season, the Lady Lions are setting the expectation that they can play with anyone.  Up next for Harrisburg is an away game on Sunday November 29th. The women will travel to Misercordia for tip off at 3 pm.
